LiquidAudio was built to be the place to go when it comes to discovering new artists. The design was built to
add even more fun to music listening and at the same time, promote the artists that people really like. We have
tried to include every feature possible without making the site cluttered and hard to use. The basic concept of
the site is to get as many points as you can and win as many prizes as you can. Our goal is to become
the largest online community of artists and fans.. ever!
|
|
|
To appear "Online", you must have your music player open. Anyone who is online will have this icon
appear next to their name.
|
|
|
You may have to enable popups for LiquidAudio.org. Don't worry, the only popups that come up on our site are designed
to be popouts, such as the music player, song uploader, image uploader, inbox, and artist ranker.
Typically, browsers today have options for allowing popups for specific sites.

Listening to Music: (Artists and fans both get the same amount of points for listening, an artist gets twice as many points as
the fan when someone listen's to their music.)
The first 30 seconds of listening you get 10 points. After you have listened for 1 minute, you get an additional 15 points. When
you have listened for 2 or more minutes, you get an additional 20 points. This mean if you listen for over 2 minutes you will get a total of
45 points and the artist will get 90 points.
If you listen to any of the artists you have ranked, you get double listening points and so does the artist. This only applies
if you have had the artist on your ranked artists list for more than 7 days. Ranking artists is good for everyone.
If you listen to any artists that are NEW (registered 7 or less days ago), you will get double points for listening and so
will the artist. I hope this is a good incentive to be on the lookout for new artists.

MORE POINTS (Artists Only):
At 12 a.m. every day, you get points depending on where you are ranked by artists and fans. You get the following points
added to your point total for everyone that has ranked you.
For Example: 3 people ranked you 10th and 1 ranked you 1st.
You get 200 points for each of the 3 times you were ranked 10th (600 total points) and 1000 points for the 1 time you were ranked 1st. You get a total
of 1600 bonus points for the day. You also get 200 points for every artist you rank, which means if you rank 10 artists, you will get 2000 bonus points every night.

|
| 10 | 200 |
| 9 | 250 |
| 8 | 300 |
| 7 | 350 |
| 6 | 400 |
| 5 | 450 |
| 4 | 500 |
| 3 | 600 |
| 2 | 800 |
| 1 | 1000 |
Stars Ratings:
Artist also get bonus points for getting star ratings.
Here is the algorithm for bonus points. A non-linear equation was used to weight the rank more than the number of ranks. If your actually that interested, here it is:
Bonus Points For Stars = ((Avg Star Rating * NoRatings) / (sqrt(NoRatings))) * 200
Here is an example of how the bonus points would work under some fake circumstances:
10.0 avg at 20 ratings = 8940 Bonus Points
10.0 avg at 10 ratings = 6320 Bonus Points
10.0 avg at 5 ratings = 4480 Bonus Points
10.0 avg at 1 rating = 2000 Bonus Points
8.0 avg at 20 ratings = 7140 Bonus Points
8.0 avg at 10 ratings = 5060 Bonus Points
8.0 avg at 5 ratings = 3580 Bonus Points
8.0 avg at 1 rating = 1600 Bonus Points
5.0 avg at 20 ratings = 4460 Bonus Points
5.0 avg at 10 ratings = 3160 Bonus Points
5.0 avg at 5 ratings = 2240 Bonus Points
5.0 avg at 1 rating = 1000 Bonus Points
All star ratings are kept private to allow you to make an
honest assesment of the artist's music. You can also go to the artist search and sort your results by your personal star rating. This feature should also help fans organize their
music even better. It should also help put the most liked music on the top of the charts.
MORE POINTS (Fans Only):
A fan can become the #1 Fan of an artist by listening to that artist's music more than any other
fan. A couple of restrictions do apply. The fan must rank the artist in their Top 10 List and
the artist must be one of their friends. Every night at 12 a.m. the fan will get a bonus of 500 points
for every artist they are the #1 Fan of. They will remain the #1 Fan until someone passes them, technically
making it possible to be the #1 Fan of more than 10 artists.
ACHIEVEMENT POINTS:
You will receive 200 points for every achievement you get.
NOTE: You do not get points for listening to or downloading your own music. It is also not possible to rank yourself.

Artist and Fan Ranks are simply determined by points. Here is how it works:
Take your (Points/Day) and multiply it by the number of days you have been on the site.
If you have been on the site for more than 30 days, multiply the Points/Day by 30.
Our algorithm allows the playing field to be level once you have been on the site for 30 days.
This way it doesn't matter if you have been here for
2 years or 30 days, you have the same chance to get the #1 rank. You will however, not have a fair chance
to get the #1 rank if you have been here for less than 30 days. This is actually fair.. if a new artist
registers and they have a monster first day, that should not be enough data to compile a #1 rank. Every
day they are on the site they will exponentially increase their rank, until they hit 30 days.
Track Ranks work slightly different. Here is the algorthim:
if SongDaysOld > 30:
((No30SecListens * 1) + (No60SecListens * 2) + (No120SecListens * 3) + (UniqDownloads * 5)) * 30
else
((No30SecListens * 1) + (No60SecListens * 2) + (No120SecListens * 3) + (UniqDownloads * 5)) * SongDaysOld

Every morning at 1:00 a.m. a job is run to cleanup the data on LiquidAudio.
This job is run to decrease the size of data so the site continues
to run as fast as possible. Here is what the job does: Deletes all listening history entries over 15 days old,
deletes all inbox messages over
30 days old,
and deletes all bulletins over 7 days old.

This site was developed by a single person and is currently run by a single person. In order to fund the
programming, pay for server space, and possibly prizes, I had to charge something.
Like the Joker says in "The Dark Knight", "If your good at something, never do it for free!".
|
|
| |
I am the only employee of the site, and yes, I do write music and post it here. My artist name is E-ISME, feel free to look me up.
I am "NOT" eligible to win prizes.
|
|
| |
The contests were developed as a generic contest system. This means that we can do any type of contest possible without having
to reprogram the site. Each contest will have its own rules and prizes. You can only win first prize once per company. This means if a
company posts a contest, you can only win first prize from them 1 time, giving others an opportunity to win.
The plan is to get radio stations and music hardware/software companies to come up with contests that
will both help us and them. They provide the prize, we provide the people (advertising). LiquidAudio is not responsible
for monitoring contests, once you win something, it is between you and the company running the contest at that point.

If you are having trouble downloading songs then I am assuming you are using Internet Explorer for your web browser. There
are 2 fixes to this problem. Number 1: Download Firefox and set it as your default browser. Number 2: Go
to Tools/Internet Options/Security in Internet Explorer. Go to the Trusted Sites zone and add http://www.liquidaudio.org. After this is complete,
go to the custom security for this zone and find the Downloads section. Set "Automatic prompting for file downloads" equal to Enable.
|
|
|
Look for the icon to add songs to your custom playlists. You can create
as many playlists as you want. When you are adding songs to your playlist, you can add an entire artist, an album, or selected tracks.
You can also view anyone's playlist and add any playlist to your queue. When an artist deletes a song that was in one of your
playlists, your playlists are automatically updated.

If your music player looks kind of strange, like there is too much space at the bottom or everything seems too big to fit
inside your window, there is something you can do. Try using ctrl + to increase the size of everything or ctrl - to decrease the size
of everything. Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

Too Small
